Leonardo studied cadavers to understand life. Someone finally applied that logic to the Mastiff.
Rendered in ochre and deep sepia ink on aged parchment, this design arranges six anatomical studies across a single composition — a full lateral muscle map with exposed shoulder fascia labeled in Italian, a bare skeleton showing the spine and ribcage in profile, two frontal portrait studies of a Mastino's heavy-jowled face, an isolated paw with tendons exposed, and a detailed skull cross-section. Handwritten Italian annotations — "Muscoli della spalla," "Scheletro delle zampe" — run between each study like actual field notes. The parchment background carries visible foxing and age staining.
The Mastiff has been built for work since Roman legions recorded them. An anatomical study is the honest way to look at that.
