 Van Gogh never painted a Newfoundland. He missed his subject. This post-impressionist oil-style print places a black Newfoundland at the shoreline, rendered in thick swirling brushstrokes of deep navy, slate, and ochre. The dog sits square and unhurried, chest forward, facing the water like he owns it — which, historically, he did. Above him, a spiral-swept sky pulls gold and ivory light around a full moon, its reflection fractured across dark rolling waves in long strokes of pale yellow and grey-blue. The Newfoundland's coat catches just enough moonlight to distinguish texture from shadow — dense, heavy fur suggested in layered dark teal and black. The composition is full-body, slightly low angle, which was the right call.
